Ballon ride

Day 6 - Balloon ride at the Valley of the Kings.

Up at 4.45am to catch a small boat across the river to the west bank, and then on by small coach to a field outside a local village. As the sun started to rise we climbed into a wicker basket, and, with a few bursts of flames, we were off.

Eventually, after a 40 minute trip, we landed out in the desert. We then had to wait until the coaches could find us and make their way across the rough terrain.

Back on land we visited the Valley of the Kings. Photography is not allowed down inside the tombs, which is a pity because the painted hieroglyphs and images are in excellent condition. We visited Tutankamen's tomb, as well as Ramses III, IV & IV. These hidden underground tombs were built after it was realised that pyramids were too visible and therefore vulnerable to robbers
