The Nile

Views of the Nile from our boat.

Our boat trip took place in Southern Egypt, with a return sailing from Luxor to Aswan. The Nile can be quite narrow in places, but reaches a mile wide in Aswan. The banks of the Nile are very green owing to irrgation, but usually the desert can be seen behind.

This is actually our sister ship the 'Regency', an exact copy of our boat. The lower deck is the restaurant, next deck cabins and reception, 3rd deck cabins only, 4th deck enclosed lounge and outside covered lounge, and 5th deck is a sun lounge with pool.

Water buffalo and cattle are seen grazing at the waters edge, and tall fields of sugar cane can be seen in the distance. There were primitive shelters frequently visible, some made only from reeds, for use as shade by the farmers and animals.

Feluccas are a common site on the Nile, and are genuine sailing boats without any modern additions of outboard motors etc.

These boatmen would row dangerously alongside and throw up t-shirts and other objects they had for sale right up onto the top deck of our boat for approval.

Whilst we were moored one day a Hyde kingfisher decided to inspect the boat...
